When our son was diagnosed with dyslexia in Kindergarten, we were overwhelmed trying to figure out how to help him. Over the course of a year, Katherine’s patient and diligent efforts transformed him from a boy who cried at the idea of reading a few words to one who gleefully reads chapters of Dog Man out loud to the whole family each evening. Our daughter, E., started working with Katherine shortly after her first kindergarten conference. E.'s teachers had raised concerns about our daughter's early reading skills but wanted to take a "wait and see" approach. After conducting some informal assessments and just a few tutoring sessions, Katherine suggested E. continue with 1:1 tutoring and recommended we have her formally tested. E. was diagnosed with mild dyslexia with receptive and expressive language deficits. We were then able to get our daughter into the Speech School (Wardlaw) for remediation.
This was during the time when schools had moved to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic and services were hard to find. Katherine continued to work with E. during her Kindergarten year through virtual learning. She made her OG virtual sessions adaptable and fun while remediating E. as we waited to start Wardlaw in the fall. We continued to work with Katherine during the summer breaks to keep her from experiencing the summer lag. Our daughter always enjoyed her tutoring sessions with Katherine. She made learning to read fun and more importantly, accessible to our struggling reader!
We will always feel a debt of gratitude to Katherine. She was not only instrumental in her diagnosis but helped E. in her journey to becoming a reader!

For the past several years, Katherine has tutored all three of our daughters, each of whom shares the gift of dyslexia and ADHD.
